Dabeli, a spicy potato mixture combined with onions, garlic chutney, meetha chutney, spiced masala peanuts and fruits like pomegranates.
It’s one of the most favourite Indian street foods of all-time. Dabeli is a Gujarati term and it literally translates to ‘pressed’. Kacchi or Kutchi represents the place of origin, which is Kutch, a region in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Dabeli today is famous not only in Kutch and Gujarat but also throughout Maharashtra, parts of Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and many other States of India
Other common names for Kutchi Dabeli are Kutchi burger or Desi burger and Kutchi double roti or “Kacchi Dabeli” (कच्छी दाबेली)

Ingredients
For the Potato Stuffing
- Potatoes – 4 medium boiled & mashed
- Dabeli masala powder – 2 – 3 tbsp
- sweet tamrind chutney – ¾ cup
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Pomegranate – ¼ cup
- Onion – 1 small, finely chopped
- Cilantro/Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
Other Ingredients
- Pav – 12
- roasted spiced peanuts – 1 cup
- Nylon sev – ½ cup
- Butter – For Toasting the Dabeli
Instructions
- For potato filling: Peel and mash the boiled potatoes and keep aside .Heat oil in a kadhai and add the mashed potatoes. Sprinkle the dabeli masala and mix properly into a smooth paste. Adjust salt . remove from heat and keep aside.
- Assembling the Dabeli : Take a Bun pav and slice it through the middle, leaving the two parts joined at one end. Apply some sweet tamarind chutney on the bottom part. Then put some potato filling and spread evenly. Top it up with roasted peanuts , chopped onions and a dash of sweet tamarind chutney again. Now press the two parts of the bun together and keep aside.
- Prepare all the bun pavs in the same way.
- Roast these buns on both the sides with some butter. Roll it in a plate filled with sev and serve hot !
